Here you can find all the commonly asked questions about our product and how it works. Please contact us if your question is not listed.
First, you need to an account. After you register an account, you will receive your login details on the mail address that you supplied.
After logging in, go to the "License" page and order your desired license here. Choose the amount of filter domains that you want, and click on "Add". An order will be created, which can be paid via the "Invoices" page.
After a successful payment, the order is transformed into an invoice and your license is added/upgraded.
You will have to change the MX-records of your domain to point them to SpamPort.
Type | Value | Priority |
---|---|---|
MX | filter.spamport.com. | 10 |
MX | fallback.spamport.com. | 20 |
Please also make sure that the destination server supplied exists and resolves, or your mail will not be delivered.
If you wish, it is possible to replace the spamport.com records with your own. Just create CNAME records that point to the mentioned values.
There are several things you can do:
- Train the filter that the message is spam.
- Blacklist either the sender, the sender's domain or IP.
You can do this all after logging into SpamPort.
When you are logged into the SpamPort system, you can go to "Messages" and click on the subject of the spam message. Next, click on the "Learn as spam" message.
An alternative way is to drag the message out of your mail program into a folder on your PC. Next, go to "Training" and click the "Learn as spam" button. You can now upload the file that you dragged out of the mail program. Please note that only .eml and .msg files are supported.
If a message has a negative spam score, it is automaticly trained as ham. The "Learn as ham" button will be disabled.
If a message has a spam score above 8, it is automaticly trained as spam. The "Learn as spam" button will be disabled.
Yes, we do! You can only use this if you can make changes to the server software, so typically this is only available for people and companies that have their own server or VPS.

Even when using SpamPort, it is possible that you still receive spam. Our filters do not always know if a mail is legit or spam, even for humans that might be hard to see!
If you received a spam mail, you can train our filters by opening the mail on SpamPort.com and clicking the "Learn as spam" button.
If you don't see the mail in SpamPort, there are several reasons possible:
- The mail was sent from the contactform of your website and your webhoster delivered the message locally.
- The mail was sent to a domain on your server that is not protected by SpamPort, and that forwards the mail to your mailserver
- Your domain still has an MX record that points directly to the destination server. Please remove all MX records that don't point to SpamPort.
- Your domain was just added to SpamPort and the new MX records are not yet picked up due to DNS caching
When you are logged into the SpamPort system, you can go to "Messages" and click on the subject of the spam message. At the bottom of the page you will see the original recipient and a button "Release message". By clicking on it, the message will be released.
Like a normal server, SpamPort will hold your messages in queue for a few days and will try to deliver them a few times.
If your mail server is up within 48 hours, you can expect to receive all your mails. After that, messages can be deleted from the queue.
Log in to SpamPort with your domain and password, then go to Settings. You can now enter a mail address to receive daily reports.
In the reports, you can see every blocked message from the last day. With one click it is possible to release a blocked message, if neccessary.
You can blacklist and whitelist sender based on the full or a part of the sender address. This can be done in 2 ways:
- Click on a message from the sender, and then use the whitelist / blacklist button. All fields will be filled in automaticly and you only have to click the "Add" button to set up the whitelist / blacklist.
- Click on the Whitelist / Blacklist button in the left menu to set it up yourself. Enter a full e-mail address in the "From address "field. It is also possible to only enter a domain name (example: domain.com) or IP (example: 127.0.0.1) For the "To address" field, only enter the first party of the e-mail address, for example "info". @yourdomain.ext will be automaticly added. It is also possible to create a wildcard by using the asterisk (*) sign.
Sender that are listed in spam blacklists, are rejected "at the gate". This means we don't allow them to continue to send their messages, and therefor we never receive the subjects and messages they are trying to send...
Want to see in which blacklists the sender is? Go to http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx. We don't use all those blacklists, but valid IP's should not be in there at all.
SpamPort does SPF and DKIM checks to score mails. A failed SPF or DKIM check does not result in a rejected message, however if there are more signs of spam messages it might mean the message is blocked.
Because SpamPort is in between the sender and your mailserver, you should not check for SPF and DKIM on your mailserver. It is possible that your server will see SpamPort as an unauthorized sender for the original domain.
It is possible to use SpamPort with forwarding e-mail addresses.
However, please make sure that you don't forward those mails to a server that does SPF/DKIM checks. Those might result in valid mails being rejected, because it might see SpamPort as an unauthorized sender for the original domain.
External mail services, like GMail, are known for this. However, you can usually set it up so the external mail server retrieves the mail messages for your server, instead of forwarding the messages.
That way, your mail server will also not be in danger of forwarding spam messages and getting blacklisted.
For Gmail, please view the instructions here.
